Wynn Las Vegas to add Amazon Alexa to all hotel rooms

Source: Amazon

Guests of Wynn Las Vegas will now be able to control various hotel features using Amazon's Alexa speakers, the companies announced on Wednesday.

The luxe hotel plans to outfit more than 4,700 rooms with the Amazon's artificially intelligent, voice-activated assistant. Guests will be able to control lights, room temperature, drapery and the television, Wynn said in a statement, though more features may be added in the future. It's not clear that guests will be able to buy anything from Amazon with Alexa at the Wynn, though.

The installation starts with suites this month, and will be completed by summer 2017.

Amazon is known for creating more seamless e-commerce experiences — including an experimental check-out free store, Amazon Go, that has been compared to a hotel minibar.

While the idea of a listening device in your Vegas hotel room may seem startling, what happens in Vegas should hopefully still stay in Vegas — guests can hit the "mute" button on the Echo. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has said the mute button used on devices like the Echo is harder to hack than a smartphone.
